llinkt! dance project is independent, cross media, collaborative, research orientated dance project.

dresses 26 is a part of llinkt!'s ongoing project DANCE AND OTHER MEDIAS. The starting point for this project was our observation that sound, light, video, film, visual installations and computer animations are often used merely as extensions to choreography in dance performances. Therefore, we started this project to initiate intensive collaborations with artists from those medias with the aim of free re-questioning of the position of dance art in relation to those medias. Through the project we strive to extend possible approaches to dance and we research themes connected to dance art from various viewpoints.

dresses 26 is a multimedia installation consisting of 26 dresses and textual messages. It is a research about female experience in dance profession, a place where private and public cross over and a place of dance where the dancing body is invisible.

In the first phase of the project, we contacted many female dance artists by Internet action, and asked them to lend us A DRESS and write A SMALL LETTER about themselves, their dresses and their experience in dance. The intention of this action was involving as many female dancers as possible and jointly creating a specific space of female experience in dance. The letters open an insight to intimate and ambivalent relation of women with their bodies, represented through dresses as locations of memory.

A dress was chosen through feminist viewpoint about a dress as useful way to prevent women from moving freely. However, as dancers we found that this can be questioned and a dress can be perceived as a symbol of women's ability to reclaim physical and social mobility and to establish themselves as a subjects and initiators of change.
