installation and multimedia performance

9 - 15 September 2006
Trg Petra Preradovica
Tkalciceva street - near the Opatovina park
Student Centre

Opening: 9 September 2006 at 6pm, Trg Petra Preradovica

The capitalism and its overcoming of the space of society and of the individual are the main questions of the three temporary autonomy zones of conquest of KUD C3 in the centre of Zagreb. The mass production and the mass seduction of the buyer, the shopping as the main way of spending one's free time, are forming a subject of a new totalitarian order. In the past hundred years, which in itself is the age of optimization of capitalism and the biggest overcome of consumerism in society, architecture has helped establish the temple of the consuming society - the shopping centre.

The young Slovenian theoreticians, architects and musicians will set up three installations or three temporary autonomic zones of KUD C3 in the narrow centre of Zagreb. Each of those installations will set up a new zone of understanding problematic themes of contemporary society and will try to set them up outside the field of capitalism. The main themes of the waiting rooms are values, consumer and the individual as the inhabitants of the contemporary city. The new structure of the town's membrane, built by the C3 at the specially selected points in the centre of Zagreb, shows a different relationship between the private and the public space which, as the result of the appropriation of capitalism, is vanishing.

The waiting room at the Cvjetni trg (Trg Petra Preradovica): The value shop
In the fashionable centre of Zagreb, the C3 will set up a temporary autonomic zone which will compose intimate spaces for the individual and places where each visitor will be able to reveal his most wanted value or wish.

The waiting room in Tkalciceva street: Sale
The waiting room in Tkalciceva street, in the vicinity of the elite Zagreb shopping centre - Kaptol Centre - will be the point of the weekly sale. This sale will show one way of understanding capitalism - creating desire.

The waiting room of the French Pavilion of the Student Centre: Fair
The proud architecture of the pavilion from the beginning of the 20th century, which can today be perceived as the place of degradation, will change during the opening session to one of the main points of the happening in the town centre. The visitors themselves will make that change.

The basis for the activity of the group C3 is space. It is interpreted by means of an audio-visual performance. The group combines different media into a whole picture, which can be ither an exhibition, a performance, a web page or a graphic representation. Architecture, music, film, photography, acting and dance are employed. The basic idea is translated into each of theese media through a working process, always in close relation to the ambience. The events take place in different cities and include performances and other actions, constructed upon the discovering of ambiences, their analysis and transformation, followed by their presentation. Group C3 is in search of ambiences that pose a question.
