The big picture

The work is conceived as an action through which we see the skyscrapers as the key points of power in the urbanistic image of Zagreb. With their vertical domination, skyscrapers are seen as symbols of the city, but at the same time they function as self-contained closed units, to which citizens have no access. By questioning the willingness of the owners of some of the skyscrapers in Zagreb to cooperate, examining the length of procedural processes and the forms of contracts that were given to us (as a guarantee for mutual benefit) when accessing the tops of certain skyscrapers, we examined what the mechanisms that are needed for the appearance on each of them are. Money? Acquaintance? A fake reason? Panoramic views that only few powerful men are able to enjoy, symbolically we are transferring to the public space in a large format. The opportunity of photographing in front of those same panoramic photos is given to all passers-by. On the spot we are printing their personalised photos in the form of postcards. With artificial insertion of citizens into a picture-view that once belonged to them, and was previously available to them, we ask the question: when and where did our right to our view disappear?
