RESEARCH

During February and March, we conducted a research in the course of which we examined the daily printed media, read diverse literature about Gornji grad, and carried out interviews with people in various ways connected to this year’s topic. Our goal was to draw attention to specific problems from various aspects, taking into account both the information which belongs to the domain of official history, as well as the information we got from talking to people, from browsing internet forums, and studying the literature connected to Gornji grad.
We divided the portfolio into the following chapters:
1. REVITALIZATION
a) excerpts from our conversation with art historian Snješka Knežević
b) quotations from articles about revitalization and individual cases of renovation and adaptation of Gornji grad facilities, taken from Čovjek i prostor, a magazine for architecture and urban planning
c) the stariways of Gornji grad – a short overview of a revitalization proposal

2. SURVEILLANCE
a) a map of surveillance cameras on Gornji grad
b) the Law on Public Gathering on St Mark’s Square
c) the network of tunnels under Gornji grad
d) an interview with Hrvoje Jurić, professor of Ethics at Zagreb’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, activist, anarchist, and feminist

3. ARTISTIC INTERVENTIONS
- a short overview of artistic actions in Gornji grad from the 1970s up to the present

4. LITERATURE
- the ways in which Gornji grad has been presented in literature and the influences of literature to our perception of Gornji grad

5. DRUŠTVENI ŽIVOT
- a short overwiev of social life on Gornji grad, from 19th century ballrooms to legendary bars and clubs of the late 20th century, now mainly closed

6. TRIVIA
- anecdotes about Gornji grad, gossips, legends, local myths
With this portfolio we have tried to provide a general overview of several topics which manifested as the most important during the research. If there is interest, it is possible to get more information and material about all of these topics.
