Kalle Hamm wanted to comment on the history and future of the French Pavilion in the Student Center. His work of art is based on the notion that there was an inscription Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité on the top of the main entrance, which is not going to be placed there again in the ongoing renovation. He made an outdoor light installation on the wall of the French Pavilion, where he is showing different kind of variations of tripartite slogans on freedom. He also made a handout, which is revealing the backgrounds of these slogans and history of the French Pavilion, and a video, which is documenting the light installation itself and the making of it.

Kalle Hamm (1969, FI) was born in Finland. His works of art examine cultural encounters and their impacts both in historical and contemporary contexts. He has been collaborating with Dzamil Kamanger since 1999 although both of them also work independently. Together they have worked on several art projects dealing with the position of marginality in mainstream culture and the complexity of the multiple identities. They have also shown an interest in global networks, for example the traveling routes of plants and food ingredients. They work with video, photography and site-specific art works and interventions in public spaces. See also www.beelsebub.org
